Preschool STEAM – Winter Science – Week 1
January 11 @ 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
It may or may not be snowing outside, but we’re going to make our own snowstorm…inside! You will need from your kit the glitter glue and Alka Seltzer pack. From home you will need a jar, water and any kind of oil.
Snow storm in a jar-create your very own snow storm inside!
Items included in kit: Alka Seltzer, glitter paint.
Items needed from home: Any kind of oil and a clear jar with lid (plastic or glass). Your jar shouldn’t be too large to keep the amount of oil you must use to a minimum.
Join Ms. Joanne on Facebook LIVE at 10:30 a.m. to hear a story and do the experiment together! https://www.facebook.com/Benningtonlibrary/

Week One – Snow Storm in a Jar
Add 1 cup of water to a jar. Mix in the tube of glitter glue. Try not to make one big clump. Then pour oil in almost to the top of the container. Put glass on a plate or cookie sheet. Break the Alka seltzer tablets into pieces and drop one at a time into the oil. You may want to add additional pieces for a blizzard! (The glitter glue may be too heavy if all clumped together but you will still see the reaction.) You may also add glitter to the jar with the water.
Observe the reaction that takes place. What is happening? The bubbles from the alka seltzer lift up the oil and glitter glue and then drop them back down.
